7 Inviting Beach Towns in Almeria, Spain

Almeria is quite a unique region within Spain. It has the country’s only desert and the province is known for its amazing coastline. Join us as we explore some of the best beach towns in Almeria for a perfect Spanish getaway.

The scale of the local national park and the abundance of former fishing hamlets make Almeria both interesting and exciting at the same time. We’ll take you through some of the smallest and most interesting beach towns in the region while we will also show you options if you want to stay within a bigger place.

This region is not extremely good with public transport. If you want to enjoy the best of what Almeria has to offer then we recommend renting a car. Having a car on your own will make your life so much easier during your holiday.

Agua Amarga

Agua Amarga

Agua Amarga is one of the best-kept secrets of Spain. This quaint little beach town in Almeria has everything to charm its visitors. The town is just a couple of whitewashed buildings hidden between two smaller hills on the coast.

This makes the scenery amazing and very-very romantic. We highly recommend Agua Amarga for couples who want to get away from the bustle of the big towns and find a piece of paradise in this region of Spain.

The town is literally just this: a handful of streets, beautiful white buildings, an amazing beach, and welcoming locals. It’s one of these places that you visit to have a laid-back and worry-free experience.

Mojácar

Mojacar

But wait, isn’t Mojácar a famous hilltop town? Yes, that is true, but there are two parts to Mojacár. There is the part that everyone has already heard about and then there is the beach town part. If you can manage to grab a hotel on the beachfront of Mojácar you will be in for a treat.

The beach town of Mojácar has actually been transformed into a family-friendly resort in recent years. Locals said enough and with the help of the major banned things like loud music on the beach and parties lasting into the night.

Due to these developments, the coastline here is a great choice for a longer stay. First of all, the beach is huge and beautiful. Then you have all the restaurants nearby plus you are just a stone’s throw away from Old Town Mojácar which is a must-see in these parts of Spain.

Las Negras

Located in the heart of the Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park, Las Negras is a picturesque and popular seaside resort. Despite not having one of the most famous beaches in the region, it is a fantastic option for anyone looking for a beach town in Almería.

The town has a rich history, with fishing being a traditional activity that is still present today. Visitors can take a stroll around the town and see the local fishermen bringing in their daily catch, and may even spot a flock of sheep or goats being tended to by a local shepherd.

Okay, La Isleta del Moro is probably our favorite beach town in the whole of Almeria. It’s such an amazing and unique destination that you simply can’t skip it when you visit this region.

Whether you are looking to spend your whole vacation in La Isleta del Moro or just spend a few days it has plenty to offer you.

Let’s start with the setting: the town is a sleepy fishing town that’s located on an islet extending into the water. The whitewashed houses and small hills in the background make for quite a picturesque scenery. You’ll find it hard to put your camera down and stop taking photos!

You’ll find Playa del Peñón Blanco right next to town which is a perfect spot to swim and enjoy the sun. There is one downside to this location though: only a couple of apartments are available and they fill up quickly. So if you plan to book a place for your vacation here you must book it in advance.

Roquetas de Mar

Roquetas de Mar

Generally speaking, Roquetas de Mar is the safest choice along the coast of Almeria. It’s a relatively big beach town and it’s definitely the biggest on our list.

If you want convenience then you must choose this place. There are multiple shops, bars, restaurants, and hotels available. Unlike some of our choices which are quite remote, here you will be among civilization.

Many people will find Roquetas de Mar as their favorite beach town in the region. While others are great to visit and take pictures here it’s great for staying. You will be incredibly close to Almeria yet you can skip the hustle and bustle of the bigger town.
