First up is probably the closest option that is a somewhat traditional beach: Fort Island Beach. It’s just off the town of Crystal River.

The beach is still pretty rural and natural but there are some amenities like picnic tables or restrooms. There is a small section of the beach that’s marked for swimming and getting into the water.

Other sections are better suited for kayak and boat launches or landings.

It’s a very simple beach and whilst we love the nature that surrounds the area, we wouldn’t call it particularly pretty. Definitely not the pretties among the beaches near Homosassa, FL.

A good option if you don’t want to drive a lot and just want to enjoy some relaxing time in the sand and in the water.

It’s around 30 minutes from Homosassa or around 18 miles.

2. Three Sisters Springs – Swimming With Manatees

Swimming with Manatee

Now the Three Sisters Springs is not a traditional beach. Rather it’s an experience that you should not miss while in Homosassa.

These springs are right in the middle of Crystal River and you would be required to pay an entry fee. Then you will be transported to the springs where you can get into the water and swim with Manatees.

Yes, this is what it’s all about. Manatees are abundant in this area and you will have the chance to have a real personal experience with them.

It’s a ton of fun to see these animals up close. Most people who take on this experience leave with grins wide as a river as they return to their cars. One of the more unique experiences among the beaches near Homosassa, Florida.

It’s only a short 20-minute drive away as well so it’s easy to visit.

Okay, we admit this one is not a beach, but it’s a swimming experience. More of an active one at that since you won’t have a sandy shore to nap and catch some sun.

The location is inside Homosassa and there are plenty of service providers for seeing Manatees. Most of them are highly rated by visitors so, in theory, it’s hard to go wrong when picking one.

Alfred A McKethan Pine Island Park is a true Gulf Coast Beach. It is nicely equipped with showers, picnic tables, restrooms, and even beach volleyball fields.

The coast is covered in nice sand and the water is very shallow near the shore. It makes this beach an especially nice pick for families with smaller children.

Generally speaking, the area is not well known among tourists so it’s usually nice and quiet on the beach. You will see families playing around, locals enjoying the water, and friends firing up some BBQ.

We love this beach for the local atmosphere it gives out. The scenery is also awesome as you are quite far from big towns.

It takes around 35 minutes to drive here which makes this place our top pick out of the beaches near Homosassa.

Although the lake is man-made you won’t notice it that much. The beach is nice with a great atmosphere and the water is usually warmer than the ocean.

The main attraction is an obstacle course right on the lake. People love to tackle the challenge and its great fun for everyone.

Parking is readily available and due to the hidden gem nature of this beach, there is usually enough space for everyone.

Amenities are okay. There are bathrooms and showers but it’s not much more than that.

The only downside of this beach is the possibility of seaweed. There are some in the water so if you can’t stand seaweed then this is a head’s up for you.
