What’s best? Early June is the month when the tourist season switches gears. A lot of people will find July and August hell because of how many people visit but June is a great choice. It’s not as crowded as the later summer months but already very lively.

July & August – Great summer vibes

July & August are the best months to visit Malta for beach lovers. These months are all about sunshine, hot weather, and epic beaches. There are also tons of summer festivities and parties all around the island.

If you like to keep busy, meet new people, and want total relaxation this is your month. Keep in mind though that sightseeing is not that pleasant during the height of summer. You’ll want to spend most of your time near the water so generally speaking, sightseeing happens early in the day or late in the afternoon.

During July and August, the island also fills up with tourists. Everyone wants to get a piece of that relaxing vibe and the eternal sunshine of the summer in Malta. Some people seem to enjoy the crowds and love meeting other travelers while others will find the crowded atmosphere a bit too much.

March & April & May – Outdoor adventures

March, April, and May are actually quite a long period, however, the experience of visiting Malta during these months is mostly the same. Of course, common sense applies. The water is a bit warmer in may and there are also more tourists in May than in March.

That being said the overall experience is pretty much consistent. What can you expect from these months? Great weather, cheap hotels, friendly locals, and exploration. The sea will be pretty cold but the temperatures might be good enough for swimming anyway. If you don’t mind the cold water that is.

First of all, the sea is always slow to cool. This means that September still sees amazing sea temperatures. While the outside temperature will not be screeching hot it will be warm and the water will definitely look inviting.

The winter months are perfect for a relaxed getaway. The weather will be great especially if you are coming from one of the northern nations. It rarely goes below freezing and in reality, it hovers around 10-20 Celsius for most of the days.

These months are good for exploration and avoiding crowds. Do note that with the tourist crowd missing some of the services are also missing. Many restaurants and shops that live off of tourism close during this time.

However, what remains open caters to the local audience which means these months are also perfect to get to know the local cuisine and culture better.
